Culinary arts students cook for 2,000 villagers, rescuers amid flood disaster in Shanxi

 Offering a helping hand to those in need in disasters is a traditional virtue of the Chinese people. In a city in North China's Shanxi Province, where heavy rains and floods have been hitting, a few vocational school students majoring in culinary arts have been praised for voluntarily cooking for nearly 2,000 local villagers and rescuers.

At a temporary shelter in a village in Shanxi's Jiexiu City, several young cooks were seen preparing the food, according to a video uploaded by The Beijing News on Wednesday.

In front of them, dozens of people were queuing for food. "The food they make is very delicious; I'm ready to have a second bowl of rice," a rescue team member surnamed Cao says in the video.

"We won't leave until the floods end," says one of the students. 

The students' kindness and their skillful cooking style has won praise from many netizens. "Look at these great young guys applying their knowledge to practise," a netizen wrote on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo.
